THE LOCATION

In the High Atlas Mountains Kasbah Belber is situated on the banks of the River M’Goun in the wonderful Valley of the Roses, The original Kasbah, with walls of red earth, straw and clay, was being restored during the past year and a half and is opening its doors as a bed and breakfast since April 2009. Surrounded by high dry mountains, small irrigated fields and wild oleanders, the river bed carries melted snow into the oases.

The terrace looks out over the valley and the meandering M’Goun, the mountains unceasingly changing colors, and a village across the other side of the river. It is quiet here and ideal for walks in nature. The Berber living in the surrounding area were all still nomads a short while ago. They live discretely in houses made of red loam and clay, with only some mules for transport. In the neighboring village Hdida, a twenty minute walk away, there is a small grocery shop.  Ait Said is only 14 miles (20 km) from El-Kelaa, the heart of the rosewater industry.

Veerle from Gent and Abdrahman welcome you in Kasbah Belber, the ideal starting place for trekking and excursions in the stunning Atlas Mountains, or to simply take a break and relax. The idea behind the concept includes helping the local people in the future. Craftsmen like ceramists, carpet weavers, bee-farmers etcetera could find a wider outlet. As for now, well trained Berber are employed as guides, to cook etc. (see service)
